1st December 2007

Dry but a very stiff breeze would never make quality football easy, and both teams certainly achieved that. The pitch was very dry and in good condition compared to some.

With no disrespect to the officials of Slade Green it was my first ever visit and on arrival I thought the name had been changed as the location, surroundings and outlook made me look for Fletcher, Godber and Mr McKay. Jason Harding would have felt at home!

My only contribution was that the half-time boardroom Jaffa cake was fresh. I did notice the young Giles eating a ham roll before kick-off and trust he is recovering well.

Interesting, a printed up colour (very green) affair with an amateurish insert giving an overview of Hythe Town and Kent FA news.

How lucky am I to have got this one! We play quality football, have strength in depth and over recent weeks have shown our qualities to challenge for the top slot. I have to assume that we were suffering from a hangover from the events of Tuesday night but these are the games that we have to grind out results regardless. To be honest if this one had been a cup final I would have stood up three times, once for the national anthem, once for half-time and finally to go home!

Only one contender in my eyes, Paul Hyde for saving us having even more egg on our faces. A great save in the first half to deny their forward from opening the scoring, little chance with the penalty, and a point blank save later on.

Xmas shopping I suspect. We outnumbered them several to one with the usual faces making the trip.

Must have had a new whistle and wanted to test it. Never got to grips with a scrappy game but seemed fair apart from sending Paul to the other side of the railings.

This doesn’t get any easier does it? Having re-lived the game overnight I have to give my personal opinion and so here goes. Excellent vintage Rioja served at a dinner party in the evening in large quantities then the result didn’t seem so bad.

Apart from the obvious result, having to spend half the evening answering questions from a very attractive wealthy single lady on the marital status of Ian Ross.On a final note I would like to wish Dan Fisk a speedy recovery from his injury and look forward to seeing him back at Reachfields soon. Let’s hope that this was the one game that every team has in a season and that at the end we don’t rue the lost points. I look forward to answering Mr Ross’s endless questions!
