Cannons Squad Begins To Settle

As management duo Tony Beckingham and Clive Cook approach the end of their fourth week in charge at Hythe Town, and with the arrivals and departures beginning to slow down somewhat, it is probably as good as time as any to take stock of the squad situation here at Reachfields.

We would like to take this opportunity to officially welcome Tony and Clive’s latest two recruits to the club, Damien Ramsamy and Ben Wilson. The latter making his debut on Tuesday night in the 2-1 win over Tooting & Mitcham United.

Ben put in a bright opening forty-five minutes in a Hythe shirt on the left-flank and was previously at Erith & Belvedere where he was known as a ‘fantastic full-back with a wise footballing head on young shoulders’.

Damien (or Mathieu as he appears on the teamsheet) hails from Mauritius and is an attacking player who has already played for us in the forward line (on his debut at Aylesbury) and out wide on Tuesday night.

He scored twelve goals for Beckenham Town in the SCEFL last season, starting this campaign with Sevenoaks; his former clubs also include Fisher.

Inevitably, there remains a trickle of departures, as players move onto new challenges, or in some cases deciding against a move to Reachfields for various personal reasons.

Scott Punton has decided to look for a new footballing challenge after being one of the last of previous manager, Tim Dixon’s signings, and recent signings Jason Thompson and George Savage have had second-thoughts about continuing with us, with travelling amongst the reasons.

Work Commitments - Laurence Harvey

Finally, there are several players currently in and out of the squad, the most significant being Vice-Captain, Laurence Harvey, whose appearances will be limited over the next couple of months as he continues to work towards qualifications to progress his career as a tennis coach.

Taser Hassan is another with on-off work commitments at the moment, whereas young Frank Griffin and Louis Sprosen are currently on dual-registration with lower-league clubs to maintain or improve fitness levels.
