Farewell To Nick Barnes & Welcome Back Lee Winfield
It is with regret that we bid a fond farewell to Nick Barnes, Nick signed from then Ryman Premier side Hastings United just after Christmas of 2011.
The midfielder went on to play in every game of the second half of our Kent League title-winning season. His introduction to the Hythe midfield allowed skipper Dave Cook to drop into a temporary but very successful role at centre-back.
The eventual champions, with Barnes impressing on a regular basis, didn't suffer a league defeat in the New Year until the 22nd April at Norton Sports, the first and last time they experienced a Kent League defeat over a four month period.
Nick went on to play a crucial role as one of a handful of players in the Hythe squad that had experienced Ryman League football, as we came a respectable 8th place in our first season back in Step Four football.
Unfortunately, injury ended Nick's participation in our second season in the Ryman South, strangely enough, around the same time of year he originally joined the club.
Of course, as well as the Kent League Championship, Nick also picked up a winners' medal in the Kent Senior Cup, as we defeated Dartford in the final, where our opponents had home advantage.
Nick finishes on 102 appearances in a Hythe shirt, scoring 7 goals, good luck and thank you Nick!
At the same time, we are delighted to announce the return of Lee Winfield, who has decided to sign Ryman forms with us again after taking a break from football.
Lee, age 31, rejoins alongside twin brother Darren having made 312 appearances for the club, more than anyone else in our squad, he originally made his debut for Hythe Town in December 2002.
So once again, farewell to Nick and of course welcome back to Lee!
