Sawyer Arrives Along With A Few Old Friends!
Hythe Town FC are delighted to officially announce the signing of experienced Ryman South striker, Frankie Sawyer.
Sawyer, who scored the second of our goals in our first win of the season (2-1 v Whitstable Town) on Tuesday night, becomes the first of Clive Cook and Tony Beckingham's new signings since their appointment following the weekend.
The forward has a proven track record in the Ryman South, his former clubs including Tooting & Mitcham United, Dulwich Hamlet, Hastings United, Metropolitan Police, Croydon Athletic and Chipstead.
We are also very happy to confirm the return of five familiar faces to Cannons' supporters, who between them have made 362 appearances in a Hythe shirt, scoring 75 goals!
Taser Hassan was the other player to actually start Tuesday night's game, with the Reachfields crowd delighted to hear of his return over the PA system just before kick-off, the exciting winger didn't disappoint with an involvement in the opening goal, scored by Jordan Wells.
Also in the squad on Tuesday was Louis Sprosen, who began his previous Hythe stint at full-back but seemed to improve as he moved up the pitch, playing on the wing and eventually as a forward towards the end of the season before last.
Another player who offers excellent flexibility is George Savage, who has appeared for us in past Ryman South campaigns in both defence and midfield and also makes his return as a Hythe player.
Next up is a player possibly with a point to prove, eight appearances last season was the extent of Dave Cook's second spell here at Reachfields, but I doubt anyone will need reminding that Cookie is a player who this time only two years ago was in possession of the Ryman South Golden Boot with 27 goals from midfield, he was also voted into the 'Ryman South Team of the Year'.
Finally, we welcome back the tough-tackling and hard-working Jamie Collado, from Ashford United, a player who epitomised consistency in his previous 76 Ryman South appearances in a Hythe shirt.
Don't forget, some if not all of our new signings will be in action in our quickly arranged friendly at Reachfields this Saturday (26th). Our opponents will be Greenwich Borough and kick-off is 3pm with free admission to all.
So it is a warm welcome to the Cannons for Frankie Sawyer and a welcome back to Taser Hassan, Jamie Collado, Louis Sprosen, George Savage and Dave Cook!
