Thank You Thommo

Connection With The Supporters - Craig Thompson Scores In The 2010/11 Kent League Cup Final

It is with regret that we bid a fond farewell to Craig Thompson, otherwise known as 'Thommo'!

Thommo has taken the difficult decision to make a fresh start, after Nicky Southall's Whitstable Town put in a seven-day approach for the massively popular striker.

Without doubt, Thommo was a player who enjoyed a real connection with the Hythe support (and that takes into account what a down to earth bunch we have at Reachfields), something probably best illustrated by the photo above.

After joining us from Folkestone Reserves in January 2010, he quickly became a regular starter for Scott Porter's side, scoring eleven goals in eighteen games.

However, the best was still to come, as he became an integral part of the Kent League Championship winning side in the 2010/11 season.

Brendon Cass scored the majority of the goals that season, Thommo contributing thirteen himself, but it was the way the new strike partnership combined to wear down stubborn Kent League defences that made them stand out in the division.

Craig will be the first to admit that after a decent first season in the Ryman South, it hasn't quite taken off for him in the last year or so, but now he has a real opportunity of a fresh start at 'The Belmont'.

He leaves Reachfields with 41 goals in 149 appearances (92 starts, 57 as substitute), Kent League and Kent Senior Cup winners' medals, and memories of that brilliant run to the FA Cup 1st Round.

Good luck and thank you Thommo!
